What happened to Omegle?
Omegle, the original "talk to strangers" site, shut down on 8 November 2023 after fourteen years. Its founder said the cost of fighting misuse had become too much to carry. People still want the same thing: a quick, anonymous conversation with someone new. omagle.world is an independent site built for that, with reporting, blurring and automatic bans built in from the start. How to start a random video chat
- Choose Video chat or Text chat.
- Pick a region, and add an interest or leave it blank.
- Choose a mask if you want one, then confirm you are 18 or older.
- Press Start. For video, allow camera and microphone when your browser asks.
- Say something real, like a question. Tap Esc or Next to meet someone else.
Video chat or text chat?
Video chat is the closest thing to meeting someone: you see and hear each other. Text chat asks less of you, works on slow connections, and is a gentle way to start. The two modes use separate queues, so a text user is never dropped into a video call.
Potato and watermelon face masks
Not everyone wants to be on camera with a stranger. Pick the potato or the watermelon and your browser draws it over your face, following your head as you move. The mask is added on your own device before the video is sent, so the other person only receives the masked picture. Your eyes and mouth show through the cut-outs so people can still read your expression. You can switch the mask on or off at any moment during a chat.

Frequently asked questions
Is omagle.world a free Omegle alternative?
Yes. Random video chat and text chat are free, and you do not need an account or an app.
Do I need to sign up or install anything?
No. Open the site in Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Edge on your phone or computer, confirm you are 18 or older, and start.
How do the potato and watermelon masks work?
Pick a mask before or during a video chat. Your browser finds your face and draws the mask on it before the video is sent, so the other person sees the mask. Your eyes and mouth show through the holes.
How do I skip to the next person?
Press the Esc key on a computer, or tap the Next button on any device.
How does interest matching work?
Add up to five interests. We try to pair you with someone who shares one, and widen the search after a few seconds so you are not left waiting.
Is it safe to talk to strangers here?
The site is 18+ only, you can skip anyone instantly, blur the other person's video and report them, and repeated reports lead to automatic temporary bans. No random chat can promise every stranger is pleasant, so never share personal details and leave if you feel uncomfortable.
Are my chats recorded?
No. Messages and video are not stored on our servers. Video goes directly between the two browsers when possible. Only reports and a hashed network identifier used for bans are logged.
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes. It works in mobile browsers. Allow camera and microphone access when asked.
